Alaska's Climate Tech Wishlist: 25 Opportunities for Startups
Alaska is a place where innovation thrives. Founders can find unique seasonal conditions – think deep winter cold and extended summer sunlight, for starters – but this is also a land with so much opportunity all year long. We’re proud to be a world-class demonstration location for technologies in energy, transportation and industry.
Are you interested in bringing your technology to Alaska? Our eight-month deployment accelerator program helps connect mid- to late-stage startups with partners and project opportunities around the state. Here are some of the top tech areas we believe can make a big difference in Alaska in 2025:
Energy
What we’re looking for: Technologies that provide or support the production and distribution of low-cost, emission-free energy that can work in remote and urban areas in Alaska.
What this can look like:
Battery/solar panel recycling
Biofuels, especially drop-in fuels for aviation and shipping
Clean energy generation solutions: solar, nuclear, wind, thermal, ocean and hydro, waste-to-energy
Demand-side management and energy efficiency
Hydrogen
Long-duration energy storage
Microgrid technologies
Transportation
What we’re looking for: Technologies that support low or net-zero emissions for transportation needs in Alaska. As the largest US state we have huge and widely varied transportation needs that include vehicles (of all sizes), airplanes, ferries, snowmobiles and anything else that can move Alaskans near and far.
What this can look like:
Alternative fuels
Autonomous vehicles
Aviation
Electric transportation
Last-mile transport
Maritime
Mobility
Shipping and logistics
Industry
What we’re looking for: Technologies that can reduce or eliminate emissions in some of the hardest to mitigate sectors in Alaska. This includes mining, seafood processing, the oil and gas industry, tourism and more.
What this can look like:
Carbon tech
Hydrogen production
Industrial internet of things (IIoT)
Low-carbon environmental remediation
Low-carbon fuels, feedstocks, and energy sources (LCFFES)
Low-footprint industrial processes
Permafrost management and ice engineering
Predictive maintenance
Robotics and automation
Water/wastewater sanitation
Don’t see your tech? No problem. We’re open to any tech that reduces emissions and has some fit in Alaska. Make your case to us.
